[edit] Information

Alaska Mega Machines Alaska is known for its great beauty and inspirational landscapes. However, it is equally as notorious for its rugged terrain, brutal winters and remote locations. Still, like everywhere, life goes on in Alaska throughout the dead of winter. Everyday tasks often become extraordinary challenges. But, with the help of colossal equipment and machines, residents are able to not only endure, but thrive and enjoy among the sub-zero temperatures, steep mountainous terrain and fragile–sometimes deadly–ice. New Science Channel series Alaska Mega Machines examines the science behind how these machines are engineered for survival in the last frontier.

On the remote island of Sitka, Alaskan engineers construct a gargantuan dam to power the entire town. Ride shotgun on a dangerous mission on the world's largest helicopters. And, Alaska's biggest boat lift hauls a 400-ton fishing ship in high winds.

[edit] Bering Sea Giants

Alaska's Coast Guard fights the most dangerous waters in the state to maintain buoys standing three stories tall. Explosive machinery yields big rewards 800 feet below Alaska's surface. An army of Alaskans build a steel ferry...several tons at a time.

[edit] Warriors in the Last Frontier

A barge like you've never seen carries an entire train along Alaska's high seas. A mega fish factory on a remote island churns out 3 million pounds of seafood a day. A flying ambulance saves lives at 14,000 feet above Alaska's wilderness.

[edit] Behemoths of the Bush

Only in Alaska can you find an airport made from nothing but water and ice. Hardy vehicles brave the arctic to travel across the tundra. And next to a field of moose, 16 missiles stand by to prevent a nuclear disaster.
